The best source for Arduino software for these graphics shields is the MCUFRIEND_kbv library which is basically a front end to the AdaFruit_GFX library with custom hooks for Arduino shields.  This library can easily be installed directly from the Arduino IDE just by searching for MCUFRIEND in the library manager.  It has some excellent examples which will become availabl from the "Examples" menu once the library is installed.  I recommend the graphictest_kbv or the testcard_kbv examples.
